And assuredly We sent Musa with Our signs unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, and he said: verily I am an apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 So when he brought Our signs to them, they started mocking at them! 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 They said, "Magician, pray to your Lord for us through your covenant with Him (If he saves us from the torment), we shall certainly seek guidance". 49 So when We averted the calamity from them, they immediately broke the promise! 50 And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) proclaimed among his people, saying: "O my people! Is not mine the dominion of Egypt, and these rivers flowing underneath me. See you not then? 51 Am I not better than this contemptible man who can hardly make his meaning clear: 52 "Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?" 53 Thus he made light (of the matter) to his people, and they obeyed him. They were certainly wicked. 54 So when they angered Us, We punished them, and drowned them all. 55 and We made them a thing past, and We appointed them for an example to later folk. 56
