And verily We sent Moses with Our revelations unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, and he said: I am a messenger of the Lord of the Worlds. 46 When he showed them Our miracles, they started to laugh at them. 47 And not a sign We showed them, but it was greater than its sister sign; and We seized them with chastisement, that haply they should return. 48 'Sorcerer' they said, 'pray to your Lord for us in accordance to the covenant He has made with you, and surely we shall be rightly guided' 49 But when We removed the Penalty from them, behold, they broke their word. 50 Pharaoh called to his people, "My people, is the Kingdom of Egypt not mine? And these rivers that flow at my feet, are they not mine? Do you not see? 51 Or am I better than this man, who is contemptible and scarcely makes things clear? 52 "Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?" 53 So he incited his people to levity and they obeyed him: surely they were a transgressing people. 54 So, when they angered Us, We punished them and drowned them every one. 55 And We made them a precedent and an ensample unto those after. 56
