Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the Clear Book 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
