Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
