Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
