Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HaMeem 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 The command that We have been sending 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
