The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and banana trees, 29 And shade extended 30 near to flowing water 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And raised couches. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
