We did deliver aforetime the Children of Israel from humiliating Punishment, 30 They (had experienced) under the Pharaoh. He was certainly a tyrant, guilty of excess. 31 And We chose them (the Children of Israel) above the 'Alamin (mankind, and jinns) [during the time of Musa (Moses)] with knowledge, 32 And sent them tokens to bring out the best in them. 33 Verily these! they say: 34 'There is nothing but our first death; we shall not be revived. 35 So bring our fathers (back), if you are truthful. 36 Are they better, or the people of Tubba? And those who were before them? We destroyed them; they were indeed criminals. 37 And We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them in sport. 38 We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. 39 Verily the Day of Distinction is the term appointed for all of them. 40 A Day whereon a friend shall not avail a friend at all, nor shall they be helped. 41 except for those to whom God grants mercy. He is Majestic and All-merciful. 42
