The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Mount 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And the lofty roof. 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 there is none to avert it. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. 20 And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
