The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 by the much-visited House, 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
