The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And the roof exalted, 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
