The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Mount 1 And the Book written 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 by the Visited House, 4 The roof raised high, 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 none can avert that. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
