The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 and by the Book in lines 2 on fine parchment; 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And the swollen sea, 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 none can avert that. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
