The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the mount. 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
