So exhort (them, O Prophet), for by your Lord's Grace, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or do they say:- "A Poet! we await for him some calamity (hatched) by Time!" 30 Say thou: "Await ye!- I too will wait along with you!" 31 Or, do their intellects order them to do this? Or, are they an insolent people? 32 Or do they say, "He has invented it himself"? Indeed, they are not willing to believe. 33 Let them produce a phrase like it, if what they say is true! 34 [Or do they deny the existence of God?] Have they themselves been created without anything [that might have caused their creation]? or were they, perchance, their own creators? 35 Did they create the heavens and the earth? No! They have no faith. 36 Or, are the treasures of your Lord in their keeping? Or, are they the controllers? 37 Or do they have a ladder (climbing which) they can hear (the secrets of heaven)? Let one who has heard then bring a clear proof. 38 Or has He daughters while you have sons? 39 Or is it that thou dost ask for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load of debt?- 40 Or is the hidden with them, by which they pass judgements? 41 Or are they contriving a stratagem against you? If so, that stratagem will rebound against the unbelievers. 42 Or, do they have a god, other than Allah? Exaltations to Allah above that which they associate! 43 Even if they saw lumps falling from the sky they would say: 'A massed cloud' 44 Then let them be (O Muhammad), till they meet their day, in which they will be thunder-stricken, 45 the day when their guile shall avail them naught, and they shall not be helped. 46 Surely there are other torments besides this for those who are wicked, though most of them do not know. 47 And be patient, [O Muhammad], for the decision of your Lord, for indeed, you are in Our eyes. And exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord when you arise. 48 and proclaim the praise of thy Lord in the night, and at the declining of the stars. 49
