EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 If they say, "He is but a poet; we are waiting for some misfortune to befall him," 30 Say (unto them): Except (your fill)! Lo! I am with you among the expectant. 31 Or do their intellects bid them do this? Or are they an insolent people? 32 Or do they say, "He has invented it himself"? Indeed, they are not willing to believe. 33 (If they are truthful in this), then let them produce a discourse of similar splendour. 34 Did they come into being without any creator? Or were they their own creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather they are not certain. 36 Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like? 37 Or have they a ladder whereon they listen? Then let any of them that has listened bring a clear authority. 38 Or has He only daughters and ye have sons? 39 Or, do you ask them for a wage, so that they become weighed down in debt? 40 Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down? 41 Or do they want to stage a deception? -- Then only those who do not believe will be the ones who will be tricked. 42 Or have they a god other than Allah? Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him). 43 Even if they saw lumps falling from the sky they would say: 'A massed cloud' 44 So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs, wherein they shall (perforce) swoon (with terror),- 45 The day on which their struggle shall not avail them aught, nor shall they be helped. 46 And indeed for the unjust is another punishment before this, but most of them do not know. (Punishment in the grave is proven by this verse.) 47 And wait thou patiently the judgment of thy Lord; verily thou art before Our eyes; and hallow the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest. 48 And in the night also hallow Him, and at the setting of the stars. 49
