The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
