The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
