The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
