The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
