The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
