The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
