The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 arise, and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
