The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 then came down close 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
