The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
