The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 and taught to him 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
