The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and a few from later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 facing one another. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those on the right hand; 38
