The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 and a few from later times. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and extended shade, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
