The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those on the right. 38
