He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
