The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
