The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of later ages, 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And shade extended 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 on raised couches. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
