The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for those on the Right, 38
