The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruits abounding 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
