The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye are classes three. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
