The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And raised couches; 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
