The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And shade extended 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those on the right. 38
