The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And wide eyed houris 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And shade extended 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
