The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And spreading shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
