The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 facing one another. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And extended shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
