In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Verily, We have sent to you (O men) a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) to be a witness over you, as We did send a Messenger [Musa (Moses)] to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
