In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
