The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
