The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
