A multitude of those of old 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 "We are ruined, 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
