A multitude of those of old 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
