A throng of the ancients 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And those on the left - how are those on the left! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Consider the fire that you strike. 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Therefore proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
