These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
