A company of the former peoples 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
