A throng of the ancients 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 They were endowed with good things 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
