A throng of the ancients 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 "We are ruined, 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
